The Smith - Rogers - Reeves VFW Post 4575 Flag Initiative aims to replace old, tattered American, Tennessee State, and Military Branch flags for the residents, Veterans, and small locally owned businesses of Murfreesboro, TN. This community program is made possible through our dedicated Post Flag Fund.
"Our flag is not just one of many political points of view. Rather, the flag is a symbol of our national unity."
— Adrian Cronauer
Honoring Sacrifice: Flying the flag acknowledges the lives lost and the service of those who protected our nation.
National Unity: It serves as a visual reminder of shared values—like freedom, justice, and democracy—that bring citizens together.
A Symbol of Hope: The flag represents the ongoing resilience of our country through both peaceful and challenging times.
The Federal Flag Code provides rules to ensure the American flag is always treated with the highest level of respect.
Position of Honor: The American flag should always be positioned to its own right (the viewer's left) when displayed with other flags.
Highest Point: If grouped with state or local flags, the American flag must be placed at the center and at the highest point of the group.
Orientation: When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union (the blue field of stars) must always be at the top and to the flag’s own right (the viewer's left).
Illumination: Traditionally, the flag is displayed from sunrise to sunset. However, it can be flown 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during darkness.
Inclement Weather: Do not display the flag during severe weather unless using an all-weather flag made of durable nylon or polyester.
Ground Clearance: Never allow the flag to touch anything beneath it, including the ground, floor, water, or merchandise.
Retirement: When a flag becomes worn, torn, or faded and is no longer fit for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. Unserviceable flags can be dropped off at local VFW or American Legion Posts for official retirement ceremonies.
You can drop off unserviceable flags at our official retirement box located at:The Tri-Star Veterans Resource Center
